Be College Ready!

Our AVID program at Alamitos is one of 203 nationally recognized DEMONSTRATION schools. We have achieved the highest level of AVID recognition for our amazing program. AVID is an elective taken during the school day. The program extends into high school to provide academic support and ensure students are COLLEGE & CAREER READY. We build our AVID FAMILY by having extended learning opportunities including career projects, college field trips, and team building activities. Three days each week our own former students, who are currently now enrolled in college, come to the Alamitos campus to tutor and mentor students.

In AVID, we focus on 3 areas:

Study skills: Test taking skills and FOCUSED NOTES from core subjects
Tutorials - Problem solving and academic support for core subjects
Organization: Weekly binder checks and grade checks

Applications are taken for 7th and 8th grade entrance. The AVID program extends into high school to assist students and families as they navigate the college application process. There are leadership opportunities available for our middle school students including College Club, Honor Society, and other clubs. There is also scholarship opportunities as AVID Alamitos Condors enter a $10,000 scholarships through the Angel's AVID essay every year... 6 of our Condors have won this generous scholarship. As AVID students advance in high school, more scholarship opportunities are available for college.
